Information & Resources
  • This service provides information on and referral to disability related resources. We provide information and referral on a number of different topics; from AISH to accessible housing to where to find adaptable clothing and everything in between! Consumers often need help when applying for different programs like income support, PDD or Homecare just to name a few. We help consumers in accessing these services and more. We also maintain a database of agencies and their services which complement our goals of consumer independence and self-determination.

  • If you require any assistance in accessing services in the Calgary area, please contact Jolene Farran, Engagement Coordinator, at (403) 263-6880 ext 224 or .

Peer Support

The philosophy of the program is based on the foundation that by having the support of others who understand the everyday issues of living with a disability, individuals can gain the self-esteem and confidence needed to make wanted changes in their lives.
Our goal is to facilitate ways that individuals can acquire information on community resources, and discover different leisure interests while receiving encouragement and moral support from other individuals with disabilities who share similar experiences.

Through conversations with centre staff and volunteers, people with disabilities can receive support and/or explore social / educational opportunities available in their community. In addition, we offer a range of opportunities where consumers can participate in various learning events throughout the year.

Personal Empowerment & Life Skills Program

It is the goal of the  Personal Empowerment & Life Skills Program to increase opportunities for consumers to exercise self-determination. We accomplish this goal in several ways:

Information & Resources

We act as a resource hub for Calgary to provide consumers with information and referrals to disability related resources. No matter what question or concern you may have, we will work with you to ensure that your needs are met.

Do you feel empowered and able to search for your own options? That's what we had in mind...

Visit the Community Resource Database to browse through 500+ agencies to find the one that suits your needs.

Life Skills Workshops

We collaborate with other local agencies so consumers can participate in workshops to learn everyday skills like banking, budgeting and grocery shopping, cooking etc. We also provide opportunities for consumers, their families and support networks to learn important information about disability related initiatives such as the RDSP, AISH, PDD and Access Calgary through information sessions.

Community Involvement

We  focus on decreasing barriers to self-determination by establishing relationships within our community, and, through our work on committees.

Learn about our work with the Calgary Ability Network Poverty Reduction Committee, where we try to ensure that all Albertans have a livable income.

Also, look for us as we promote self-determination for consumers by representing the Centre at various trade shows and other events.
