Pre-Academic Training Hosts
2011 marks the start of a redesigned volunteer training program. The new name indicates the movement toward a highly structured and formal training experience.
It includes a two phase process and facilitated practical experience. Phase one continues with the recruitment of disabled individuals, who volunteer because they enjoy meaningful activity; while phase two will retain those applicants who are interested in preparing for academic study, or a course of pre-employment training with our community partners.
This approach is intended for interested and successful program participants to volunteer in administrative capacities, to get a feel of the “corporate world”, before making long term commitments toward employment, or continuing on to a post-secondary setting.
Looking forward ILRCC will continue to share the centre's resources but as added benefit, offer experienced internship opportunities, with approved community partners
How does the "Pre-academic” program look?
~40 hours of onsite training –Tier 1 offers classroom training and practical experience as interns are provided with peer- mentored training, in the centre
~40 hours of onsite training – Tier 2 classroom training & practical training. Also includes additional hours to support participants in completing applications for post-secondary, post-secondary financial applications or employment networking.
